SIMPLE CLASSICS by Connor Homes

In late fall of 2008 we introduced our Simple Classic Line of Homes, a line of homes efficiently designed and priced based on set designs, judicious interior material selections and durable yet simple exteriors. Since that time we have watched these Simple Classics take shape (over 12on the landscape so far) in both our millshop and on the site and we are more convinced then ever of their appeal.

Our Simple Classics include our beautiful Shaker cabinet line, all our typical millshop efficiencies including pre-drawn plans, custom transportation pricing and fast assembly times in the field. And our builders in the field have reinforced this, "These go up really fast." Click on any of our homes to the right for a full description and our new pricing.

We have always designed our homes with an understanding that the more cost-efficient we make them, the more opportunities we have to build them. In the company's 40 years of building new old homes the ability to keep new construction affordable has become more challenging each year as costs rise. It has always been our goal to have homes that are affordable to  a wide range of buyers from first-time homeowners to savvy repeat buyers.

In this line of homes we have taken some of our favorite smaller homes, retained the same beautiful exterior detailing found in our catalog homes and looked for ways to ensure they could be built in a range of $155-$175/sq ft completed cost (excluding land and site specific work). We made sure the framing was simple, the layout efficient, the placement of windows and doors sensible, the materials durable and the design enduring. These plans are presented and priced to be built exactly as shown with no modifications. The ability to repeat these homes for different homeowners throughout the country allows the design cost to be shared and split among many people. Timeless design is always in style. Upon request these plans can be mirrored at no additional charge. Minor modifications can always be made by your on-site builder and we are happy to advise where we can. If you require the addition of a mudroom, garage or porch we can most certainly accommodate you.

Words from our Homeowners

Dear Connor Homes:
As a very happy owner of a Simple Classic Home I can attest to how smoothly the process goes when building a Connor Home.  Within days of deciding which Simple Classic model to build we had our plans submitted to our town’s building department for permitting.  Our building inspector, known for being especially stringent, approved the plans upon first review and we broke ground the following week.  Our neighbors were astonished at how quickly we had a weather-tight shell erected on site: after the first delivery from Connor Homes we had all exterior work complete within just a few weeks.

We progressed a little slower on some of the interior work since we did some of it ourselves.  But the end result is a beautiful, energy efficient home the looks like it has been in the neighborhood for over 100 years.  We are complemented on how great it looks all the time.  Best of all, despite the fact that we built a new house in the midst of a down housing market, the house appraised for significantly more than the cost of construction.

I recommend Connor Homes to everyone I meet that is considering building a new home.

Sincerely,
Andy and Carol

Dear Connor Homes:
We love our Simple Classic. We built it in 2010 and everyone compliments us on the design. We live in Washington, CT. Washington is a picturesque little town of about 4,000 people and is full of colonial homes. When we decided to build our home we wanted to fit the character of the town and our neighborhood. Connor Homes fit the bill.
It addition to the beauty of our home was the incredible ease of construction. The house went up quickly while keeping quality of materials and design in mind. The designers of the house were easy to work with and were flexible and helpful with design ideas.
In addition to having a beautiful, well built house, we also had a wonderful experience working with the staff at Connor Homes. Everyone was friendly and helpful and because the company is small we felt like we got to know and develop a relationship with the people building our house.  We loved working with people from Vermont and supporting local small business. My husband and I would recommend a Connor Home to anyone.

Thanks,
Carrie and Jim

Dear Connor Homes:
I applaud your efforts to assist your fellow neighbors who have suffered during this recent hurricane and flooding. I can only say that you assisting families into a new house built with the Connor Panelized system would be an excellent way to quickly return a family into a quality structure that exudes the feel of a period New England home. I have been a builder for over twenty-five years and have built a number of Connor products including their Simple Classics. The buildings erect very quickly, the quality of both the material and the design is excellent. I have found the cost is usually fifteen to twenty percent less than a comparable quality on-site built home while the completion time of a home is nearly cut in half. In a nut-shell the Simple Classics are high quality, wonderful design, cost effective and quick to erect. God bless your efforts to help your fellow neighbors.  It is the American way.

I first heard about Connor Homes five years ago but it wasn't until last winter that I finally made a date to visit the mill in Middlebury.  I was impressed by the facility, the craftsmanship and the well organized system of pre-building components.  I like to work alone or with a small crew, and the concept of having a lot of the cutting and framing done off-site just made sense to me.

I had some time between jobs so I decided to build one of their Simple Classic Homes.  The shell arrived less than a month after I ordered it and it went up wicked fast- I had it framed in four days.  If I had been impressed before, I was blown away with the actual product.  I've been custom stick building for 30 years and there's no way I can build a house with the same quality of material and the architectural detail as a Connor Home for anywhere close to the price.  Apples to apples, stick building takes longer and is less profitable.  Connor Homes is like having my own design staff and sales force, plus they supply all the drawings, they do all the advertising, and the support team have all been builders like me so when I need something they know time is money.

Since I walked through their door last winter, Connor Homes has kept me busy with one job after another- customers they sent to me.  I have an offer on my spec house - now if I could just find time to finish it.  If I could say just one word about Connor Homes and their mill built kits it would be PHENOMENAL.  I wish I'd done this five years ago.
